Book 7 is the first content patch for Mines of Moria

Finally, three weeks after the US got Book 7, the first content update for Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria, the patch hit the European servers.  It took ages to download yesterday, presumably because everyone was at it. I was getting around 3Kb/sec download at one point, but I choose to take this as a positive sign because it means that the world will be busy with players again. Normally there is a way of downloading the patch files separately so you can apply them ready for the update, but if it was offered this time, I must have missed it.

The new area has the usual quest givers and vendors.

Anyway, once you’re updated you’re in and as expected there is a new Stablemaster just outside Lorien where there was a clear space for one in Mines of Moria. After the closed space of Moria, however pretty it was, it’s nice to be back outside and next to the Stablemaster are a set of quest givers, whose rewards are Reputation for Lorien. You need it as well, because if you try and enter Lothlorien without adequate reputation, the guardians will shoot you down as enemies.

The first quest has you picking up Orc poo. Nice.

It’s a neat way of giving you a reason to do the quests when there’s no level cap increase, though the first quest to gather up Orc “filth” is rubbing your nose in it a bit. So far the quests are the usual gathering ones, so it feels very familar, but I’m hoping that as you enter the wood, Leaves of Lorien will offer some new LOTRO gameplay. I’ll update as I get further into the content.
